Figs

Mid- July - Mid -August

A time-honored fruit that has quickly become a favorite around here, figs are truly one of a kind with their mild, gently sweet flavor. They’re our newest crop, and our collection keeps growing—because once the “fig bug” hits, it’s easy to become obsessed with these incredible fruits!

We sell figs by the pint in the farm store. Call ahead to place an order or stop by to see what’s available. Figs ripen daily, so we harvest them as they’re ready. Some days we may have 20 pints, while other days we may only have a few. Be sure to keep an eye on our social media pages or newsletter for updates.

We also sell starter fig plants for you to grow at home. Available in 1-gallon containers, we offer multiple varieties to choose from. You’ll find them in the greenhouse in spring and at the farm store throughout the rest of the season.

With our cold winters, figs can’t survive in the ground here, so we grow them in oversized containers. Each winter, the trees need a dormant period and are stored in our apple cooler. In early spring, we bring them out, prune them for shape and occasionally root-prune too.

Next, the fig trees are moved into the greenhouse for warmth and sunlight, where you can see them leafing out each spring as you wander through. Once the greenhouse becomes too warm, they’re moved outdoors to a shaded area, where they continue to grow and produce fruit.

These remarkable fruits are not ones you’ll want to miss! Turn them into a jam to pair with cheese and crackers, sauté them with a drizzle of honey, or enjoy them fresh. You can’t go wrong with the sweet, mellow flavor of figs.

Varieties we carry:

Brown Turkey, Chicago Hardy, C’s Red, Pingo de Mel and others
